The Chapter Fly-out on 8-27-1999 to Fort Ord, now
known as Marina Municipal, California was attended by 11 people & five
airplanes from Concord.
Information and photos submitted by Duane Allen
Starting closest to the camera on the right is my 1978 Fixed Gear
Cardinal, then Leo Saunders' 1976 RG still wearing it Bi-Centennial paint scheme.
The white airplane after that is Ron Robinson's Glasair 1RG. Then the ones you can't
see are Dr. Lyle Powell's Glasair 3 and Bruce Seguine's "experimental" Swift.
The first picture I took was of the "Concord Flight Line"
@ Marina. All the airplanes at the moment were from Concord. See below for
others that arrived later.
As I walked toward the hangar, I took pictures of each airplane up close
so it could be identified.
Here you see Leo's RG. As I recall he is only the second owner of
this 76 beauty and it only had a couple hundred hours on it when he bought it.
Probably in about 1977.
This is Ron Robinson's Glasair 1RG. At least with 2 Cardinals and
two Glasairs there was no majority of types.
This is Dr. Lyle Powell's Glasair III. He was the first to leave but
it was good seeing him there, along with his wife Ellen.
Bruce Seguine has modified his Globe Swift so much he had to change it to
"Experimental". Or changed it to experimental so he could modify it.
Geez, it is fast. Pretty too.
This picture was taken from Pat Smith's office on the second floor of the
hangar. I did not find out who flew the cub in. Gary Niva flew his Ryan in
after some people had already left. He just happened in and had not intended to be
part of the fly-in.
After we ate and visited, we went up to the CJ-6 restoration facility and
looked at all the Chinese airplanes the guy was refurbishing. This one took off
after we did and followed us out to the east near Salinas airport to find a hole to go up
through. My wife still remembers that flight clearly. She does not like skud
running. She reads the NTSB Reporter every month, sometimes before I
do. You want your name in there?
There were other airplanes who showed up that I did not get pictures of.
For example, Bob Luten from RHV came in in his newly acquired 177RG and an
Archer from SQL If the weather had been better, there would have been more
airplanes.
