Welcome

EAA Chapter 393

Scott Davis Member Spotlight July, 2022

Scott Davis, our Executive Chef, has been an EAA Chapter 393 member since 2014.  Scott completed his pilot training in 1997 with a hiatus between 2002 and 2014 when he regained his currency.  Scott also joined the NRI Flying Club and the Mt. Diablo Pilots Association in 2014 based at Buchanan Field.  Scott currently has over 500 hours as PIC as a Private Pilot ASEL and is checked out in all of NRI’s aircraft (a Cessna 172, Cessna 182, Cessna 182 RG and their Piper Archer. Scott most likely has 100LL running through his veins.  His passion for aviation and flying  makes him a great member of our aviation community.

Scott pursued his pilot license to completely escape mentally and physically from his restaurant, Magoo’s in Pleassant Hill, which he owned for 34 years.  He received the ‘Business Person of the Year’ award from the city of Pleasant Hill during his ownership of Magoo’s Restaurant.

Scott began developing his restaurant skills while he was still in high school.  He learned the business from the bottom up and was mentored by an employer on how to be a successful restaurateur.  He learned the business very well and was ready for restaurant ownership when he purchased Magoo’s.

Scott actively participates in the Chapter Fly-Out group and was awarded a Chapter Lifetime Membership in 2022.  He has flown over 40 Young Eagles for our Chapter and hopes he has inspired a future aviator.  Scott traveled to AirVenture 2021 with Ron Lem and volunteered as a cart driver to assist other attendees.  In his own words, “I couldn’t have imagined a better first time experience.”

Scott responded to the question, “Why do you fly?’ as follows:

“I have to say that flying checks so many boxes for me.  It challenges me and requires I be at my best for every flight.  I truly enjoy taking friends on The Bay Tour followed by lunch  at Half Moon Bay with a walk on the beach.”

Chapter 393 is so lucky that he shares his talent with the us by preparing the meals at our monthly General Meetings. He does everything from purchasing the food items, preparing the items in advance and the cooking in the Clubhouse kitchen.  It is a time intensive endeavor to have everything ready to serve at the scheduled time, and Scott always meets his commitment.  Scott believes a commitment is a promise that has only one exit plan and that is to do what he promised to do when he promised to do it.  Everyone of us in the Chapter benefit from Scott's hard work and expertise while enjoying a freshly prepared meal with a different menu item each month.

Scott also is our Chapter Treasurer and accepts responsibility for:

·       Oversight of  the Chapter's financial administration

·       Review and enforcement of our financial policies and procedures

·       Generating our financial reports

·       Advising the Board on financial strategy

Our Chapter is grateful that Scott volunteers his expertise and time to feed us so well in addition to his Treasurer’s duties!

Thanks, Scott for all your help in Chapter 393
